The position reports directly to the Inside Sales Manager or Office Manager. This role is primarily responsible for supporting the Sales efforts of the branch to ensure the successful execution of sales plans. The Inside Sales Representative sells, quotes and promotes building materials, millwork and pre-hung/custom doors, in addition to ensuring prompt and accurate communication with customers on their orders and delivery dates.

Personal initiative, coupled with a sense of competitive drive, and the ability to stay focused on results despite changing conditions, is the key to achieving the performance objectives of this job. Dedication and commitment and the pursuit of high standards of achievement are expected in this position. As the company is in the midst of strategic change, the position requires an individual that flexible, resilient and who is excited by the opportunities that growth brings.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Works with customers to convert inbound inquiries into sales orders.
  • Overcomes technical and business objections for prospective customers.
  • Emphasizes salable features, quotes prices, and prepares sales orders for orders obtained.
  • Makes outbound sales calls based on sales activity plans generated by the Sales Manager or General Manager.

Customer Service

  • Builds and maintains customer relationships.
  • Estimates date of delivery to customer based on product knowledge, order processing, and delivery schedules.
  • Investigates and resolves customer problems.
  • Updates customers of any changes to the promised delivery date


  • Enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database.
  • Complies with required company policy and procedure.
  • Communicates with buyers on quotes, product shortages or quality issues

  • The ideal candidate must be extroverted, confident, and possess the ability to effectively communicate the benefits of valued-added service and products to employees, customers, and vendors.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience in the millwork and building materials industry is highly desirable.

Language Skills:

Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Additionally, must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or members of the business community. As required, this person will make presentations to the Branch Leadership Team, and public groups.

Other Skills/Certification:

Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly Word and Excel.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as discounts, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. The ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
